Why is The Grumpy Dragon so Grumpy?
Taliesin (The Grumpy Dragon) is grumpy because he looked at the state of publishing these days and didn't like what he saw. He knew there had to be a better way, so The Grumpy Dragon, LLC was born.
Spring Lea Henry and Ray Henry formed The Grumpy Dragon in November 2006 because we felt there was a need for a small press that would treat its authors as people, not accounts. We saw how difficult it was for many first-time authors, especially teenagers, to break into the industry. We saw what seemed to be an unfair disparity between the profits taken by many publishers and the royalties earned by their authors. We saw authors who had lost creative control over their works. We decided we could do better, so here we are.
At The Grumpy Dragon, we believe in taking a collaborative approach with our authors to help them be the best writers they can be without sacrificing their personal creative visions. We believe in an equitable division of book earnings between author and publisher. Most of all, we believe in helping truly talented writers pursue their literary dreams.
Although we publish many titles in many genres by authors of any age, we have a special focus on teen authors. It is especially difficult for a talented teen to become a published author so we take great pride in looking for truly talented teen writers and in helping refine the skills of those teens whose writing is perhaps not yet up to the level of being put into print.
