As you may have heard by now, there is a huge wildfire near Colorado Springs. As I write this, portions of NW Colorado Springs are being evacuated. Let me just say that the sheer size of the smoke plume is quite impressive... in a bad way. :(
In fact, as of 6:34pm Mountain Time, it was just announced that the Air Force Academy base housing is now on Pre-evacuation Alert.

UPDATE: As of 6:55pm, the Pine Valley Housing area on the Air Force Academy is now on Mandatory Evacuation.

I-25 Reopened
Tue 06/26/12 by adminLatest word is that I-25 has reopened. However, everything west of I-25 and north of Fillmore and Fontmore is under Mandatory Evacuation.
New Evacuation

Major Road Closure
Tue 06/26/12 by adminThe southbound lanes of I-25 entering Colorado Springs from the north are closed due to evacuations in the northwest portion of town. Also, Highway 24 is still closed from Cave of the Winds to Crystola.
Some Evacs Lifted
Fri 06/29/12 by Ray HenrySome of the Pre-evacuations and Evacuations have been lifted, although many are still in place.
Sadly, the remains of one person were found in one of the destroyed homes. According to officials, the family has already been notified.
